Workforce Skills Gap Forum
August 1 at 6 PM
Every year, colleges and universities graduate thousands students looking to join the workforce. But are they prepared? With such an apparent abundance of available talent, why do many employers continue to complain about a "skills gap" and a lack of qualified candidates to fill positions?
Is the mission of higher education to prepare graduates with the skills they need (and that employers want) for the 21st century? Is there a disconnect between academia and the working world? Should our colleges adapt to train more work-ready graduates?
On August 1st, Mountain Lake PBS will bring together a panel of representatives from area colleges and businesses to tackle the question, "What do employers want?"

The target audience is high school students who are within two years of exiting school and have barriers to employment. Students will have the opportunity to learn about and discuss various aspects of the world of work including self-advocacy, job interviewing, developing work skills and improving self-confidence. The conference will feature representatives from area agencies and employers who will offer students, teachers and families the chance to learn about 21st Century workforce readiness. Let’s all work together to help our students be successful in their future pathways.
